It Haunts the Mind: and Other Stories (The Exorcist's House Universe)
Author: Nick Roberts
Publisher: Crystal Lake Publishing
Audio Publisher: Crystal Lake Audio
Description:
From Nick Roberts, the best-selling author of The Exorcist's House and Anathema, comes fifteen dark tales that are as horrific as they are moving.
“Come for the horror, stay for the heartbreaking emotion that bleeds into every page. Roberts really shows his range here, and it’s obvious early on in these stories that they will stick with you long after reading them.” —John Durgin, author of The Cursed Among Us and Inside The Devil’s Nest.
Witness absolute evil in “Sally Under the Bed” and “It Haunts the Mind.” Endure vengeance and violence in “The Noose” and “The Bitter End.” Face the realities of addiction and grief in “Thanks for Sharing” and “The Weeping Wind.” Survive otherworldly monsters in “The Paperboy” and “Voodoo Bay.”
In balancing the terrors of the supernatural with the horrors of real life, this collection drags you down the dark alleys of a haunted mind, forcing you to confront your demons, both real and imaginary.
“Nick Roberts has an uncanny ability to scare the bejesus out of readers. With It Haunts the Mind & Other Stories, he does it time and time again. Highly recommended if you don’t want to sleep in the dark again.” —James Aquilone, Bram Stoker Award nominated editor and writer.
Perfect for fans of: Horror short stories, short story anthologies, horror collections, U.S. Horror fiction, ghost fiction, suspense horror, stories about substance abuse, possession, and coming of age horror.

Author Interview: Haley Newlin
Welcome back to another Author Interview! Today I am joined by Haley Newlin, author of Take Your Turn Teddy, Not Another Sarah Halls, and The Film You Are About To See.
1. Introduction
I grew up on the theatrical terror of William Castle's gimmicks and Vincent Price films—both of which have heavily influenced my work. I have published three novels, including Take Your Turn, Teddy, and my latest release, The Film You Are About To See, featured on the 2025 Bram Stoker Reading List. I am the managing editor for Cemetery Dance Magazine.
2. Managing Editor Role
I’ve written for Cemetery Dance Magazine for about five years, mostly book reviews and author interviews. The managing editor curates content, edits it, and publishes it.
3. Favorite Book
The Film You Are About To See is definitely my favorite. I’ve always loved Vincent Price and William Castle. When I think about what films to show at a drive-in, that inspired much of my writing.
4. Difficult Book to Write
Take Your Turn, Teddy was the most difficult to write, as it involves personal experiences connected to the narrative's themes.
5. Current Projects
I am currently balancing work on a screenplay and two short stories. My next novel has a bleak tone and is set in rural Indiana during the 1940s.
6. Favorite Vincent Price Movies
- Diary of a Madman (1963)
- The Tingler (1959)
- House of Wax (1953)
7. Writing Rituals
I start each writing session by listing things I’m excited about within the project to reconnect with my passion.
8. Top 2026 Horror Releases
I recommend The Curse of Hester Gardens by Tamika Thompson and I’ll Watch Your Baby by Neena Viel for their deep emotional themes.
9. Favorite Indie Authors
I love the Paisley Mott series by Kalvin Ellis, Squirming All The Way Up by Joey Powell, and anything from Viggy Parr Hampton.
10. Recent Horror Movies
I am rewatching the Scream franchise and looking forward to Scream 7.
