Four years ago, an unthinkable disaster occurred. In what was later known as the Low-Probability Event, eight million people were killed in a single day, each of them dying in improbable, bizarre ways: strangled by balloon ropes, torn apart by exploding manhole covers, attacked by a chimpanzee wielding a typewriter. A day of freak accidents that proved anything is possible, no matter the odds. Luck is real now, and it's not always good. **Vera**, a former statistics and probability professor, lost everything that day, and she still struggles to make sense of the unbelievable catastrophe. To her, the LPE proved that the God of Order is dead and nothing matters anymore. When Special Agent Layne shows up on Vera’s doorstep, she learns he's investigating a suspiciously—and statistically impossibly—lucky casino. He needs her help to prove the casino’s success is connected to the deaths of millions, and it's Vera's last chance to make sense of a world that doesn’t. Because what's happening in Vegas isn't staying there, and she's the only thing that stands between the world and another deadly improbability. Luck is real now, and it's not always good._\\ \\ _Vera, a former statistics and probability professor, lost everything that day, and she still struggles to make sense of the unbelievable catastrophe. To her, the LPE proved that the God of Order is dead and nothing matters anymore._\\ \\ _When Special Agent Layne shows up on Vera’s doorstep, she learns he's investigating a suspiciously—and statistically impossibly—lucky casino. He needs her help to prove the casino’s success is connected to the deaths of millions, and it's Vera's last chance to make sense of a world that doesn’t._\\ \\ _Because what's happening in Vegas isn't staying there, and she's the only thing that stands between the world and another deadly improbability._\\ \\ WHAT WORKED (for me!):\\ \\ - Characterization: I loved Vera's character. I also love her arc very much. I felt it was appropriate and well-structured!\\ \\ - Pace: This is a borderline thing for me on this one because I do feel like the pace lagged a bit in the middle, but overall the pacing was good!\\ \\ - Absurdity: LOVED IT. I need a movie version of this movie like stat.\\ \\ \\ WHAT DIDN'T (for me!):\\ \\ - All the stats talk. I understand why, but dang. My focus drifted during those sections. I'm not a mathematician! \\ \\ - The length. I think it could have been a bit shorter to help with the pacing issues I mentioned above.\\ \\ \\ BUY, BORROW, OR PASS?\\ \\ I think this is one you can BUY. It's short at like 267 pages, the cover is gorgeous, and it's just enough of a whirlwind of a book to keep you entertained. \\ \\ I'm eager to read his other two horror novels now, so I'm gonna be getting those as soon as I can. If you've read this one, what were your thoughts? If you haven't and you're looking for absurd horror (definitely different from humorous horror), then I recommend it! \\ \\ Till next time!\\ \\ -Ryn](https://twostoriesbookshop.binderybooks.com/item/dCjmBVDMUBph2vCM86hM/) [REVIEW: Lucky Day by Chuck Tingle](https://twostoriesbookshop.binderybooks.com/item/dCjmBVDMUBph2vCM86hM/) * * * 2 books 2 [Queer as Books\\ \\ José\\ \\ • Apr 2](https://queerasbooks.binderybooks.com/) Join for free \\ \\ Join for free or login](https://queerasbooks.binderybooks.com/item/QTcZ4nKAUBrY3bfu5MO1/) [📚 24 Sapphic Book Recs 🩷🤍💜](https://queerasbooks.binderybooks.com/item/QTcZ4nKAUBrY3bfu5MO1/) Because sapphic stories deserve to be celebrated loudly and lovingly. * * * 24 books 3 [Discotopia \| Diverse Books\\ \\ Disco (he/they)\\ \\ • Jan 21](https://discotopia.binderybooks.com/) Join for free [Hi folks!\\ \\ I have been having a brilliant reading week, filling my boots with dystopian sci fi and queer horror. Both books I read were utterly brilliant and very different.\\ \\ **Lucky Day by Chuck Tingle**\\ \\ \\ \\ How have I not read Chuck Tingle before?? This is a brilliant sci fi horror about a bisexual statistics professor who witnesses the horror of a mass ‘bad luck’ event, where 8 million people die in bizarre, unlikely ways. She withdraws from the world, but when a government agent tells her a Las Vegas casino may have had something to do with it, she tags along.\\ \\ So fun, so weird, and has so much to (subtly) say about the way people in our world deal with crazy mass events. Loved it.\\ \\ **The Dream Hotel by Laila Lalami**\\ \\ \\ \\ A Moroccan-American woman is sent to a for-profit ‘retention facility’ after an AI algorithm that monitors her dreams flags her as a risk, likely to commit a crime. While imprisoned, she tries to figure out how it could have happened.\\ \\ This was obviously very reflective of a certain… situation today, and infuriating, but also brilliant and clever and surprising. It’s pretty contemplative, not a whole ton of action, but oh man it really enraged and energised me. Brilliant book.\\ \\ Happy reading!\\ \\ Disco x\\ \\ Join for free or login](https://discotopia.binderybooks.com/item/pM3N8T3JH5cS5dh0E7D2/) [Evil AI and Bizarre Queer Horror](https://discotopia.binderybooks.com/item/pM3N8T3JH5cS5dh0E7D2/) * * * 2 books [3](https://discotopia.binderybooks.com/item/pM3N8T3JH5cS5dh0E7D2/#comments) [Peppered Ink\\ \\ Mary\\ \\ • Oct 1 2025](https://marysmanybooks.binderybooks.com/) Join for free [Book mail from Aardvark Book Box 📦💖📚](https://marysmanybooks.binderybooks.com/item/X2RiYkPwbX0DwXPUMI18/) A lovely (and totally new to me!) selection. * * * 3 books 2 [The Inky Phoenix\\ \\ Kathryn Budig\\ \\ • Sep 1 2025](https://inkyphoenix.binderybooks.com/) Join for free [LOCAL HEAVENS IS AN AARDVARK PICK!](https://inkyphoenix.binderybooks.com/item/QBdMbamMYKyLFMJFdXCC/) \*screams\* * * * 7 books 5 [1](https://inkyphoenix.binderybooks.com/item/QBdMbamMYKyLFMJFdXCC/#comments) [Queer as Books\\ \\ José\\ \\ • Aug 28 2025](https://queerasbooks.binderybooks.com/) Join for free [“Lucky Day” by Chuck Tingle: Video Review 🎰](https://queerasbooks.binderybooks.com/item/s55ND7Y0UXJRTsmNsksA/) I went into this book completely unprepared, and wow, what a wild, unhinged, and unforgettable ride this was! * * * 1 book 3 [Queer as Books\\ \\ José\\ \\ • Aug 20 2025](https://queerasbooks.binderybooks.com/) Join for free \\ \\ Join for free or login](https://queerasbooks.binderybooks.com/item/WHV2YFEdI4bsGx6Lcq9k/) [“Lucky Day” by Chuck Tingle: ARC Review 🎰](https://queerasbooks.binderybooks.com/item/WHV2YFEdI4bsGx6Lcq9k/) Chuck Tingle truly writes sci-fi horror like no one else, unique, strange, moving, and original. * * * 1 book 3 [Kurryreads\\ \\ Kerry\\ \\ • Aug 2 2025](https://kurryreads.binderybooks.com/) Join for free [August 2025 Thriller, Mystery, & Horror Book Releases](https://kurryreads.binderybooks.com/item/vLiC6uQshJjGK6QrWqgr/) August 2025 Thriller, Mystery, & Horror Book Releases 📚📖 #whattoread #upcomingbookrelease #augustbookreleases #whattoread #newthrillerbooks #newhorrorbooks #bookworm #booktok #booktoker #upcomingthrillerbooks #anticipatedbookrelease #bookish #kurryreads #august2025books * * * 33 books 1 [Kurryreads\\ \\ Kerry\\ \\ • Jul 9 2025](https://kurryreads.binderybooks.com/) Join for free [Preorder or wait for the Library Hold: Part 8 📚📖](https://kurryreads.binderybooks.com/item/B7daKRpJq349EeEAM9cN/) Preorder or wait for the Library Hold: Part 8 📚📖 #upcomingbookreleases #whattoread #supportyourlocallibrary #preorder #newbooks #thrillerbooks #horrorbooks #buyorskip #bookworm #bookishthoughts #bookish #bookworm #bibliophile #reader * * * 12 books 3 [Kurryreads\\ \\ Kerry\\ \\ • Jul 9 2025](https://kurryreads.binderybooks.com/) Join for free [June Reading Wrap Up📖 30 books 📚](https://kurryreads.binderybooks.com/item/9PU7u4n4QO8BXVkMoFj8/) June Reading Wrap Up📖 30 books 📚 #whatireadinamonth #monthlyreadingwrapup #monthlyreadingrecap #whatiread #readingwrapup #junereads #bookrating #booktok #booktoker #rateingbooks #bookworm #bibliophile #bookish #thrillerbooks #horrorbooks #whattoread * * * 30 books 1
