Viv isn’t known for telling the truth, but she’s not lying about having an evil doppelganger.

After spending the summer wracked with guilt about causing the accident that killed her little sister, ambitious gamer and chronic liar Viv returns to Twitch streaming. She never told her parents the truth about the accident, but she hopes that maybe making it big in streaming and giving the money to them is penance enough for her mistakes.

The weekend before school starts, Viv finds the perfect horror game to make her Twitch comeback, and during an offline practice run, an NPC asks Viv for a secret. She decides to tell them the truth about her sister’s death since a game could never share her secret—in doing so, she accidentally welcomes a demonic mimic into her life.

No one believes Viv when she tells them about her evil doppelganger. Viv has lied to get her best friend’s sympathy and has spread rumors for attention, so why should anyone trust her now? The only person who believes her is Ash, a cute social outcast whom Viv once bullied.

In trying to clear her name and kill the mimic, Viv discovers that her lies have hurt people who never deserved it, herself included.

[I hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend.\ \ I've been in spending time in the coastal redwoods, relaxing and planning for next year. \ \ I wanted to drop a quick note to let you all know that one of the things I am thankful for this year is all of you! because without you none of this would be possible!\ \ Together, we have seen how traditional publishing has let writers from marginalized groups down, and this year we have seen, in many ways, how publishing in community could be the perfect response.\ \ This year, books from Bindery imprints have made best sellers lists, made (multiple) book boxes (including Aardvark!), made the Good Reads choice awards! And we are just beginning! It's a win-win for authors who decide to work with Bindery- all of the perks of traditional publishing and not having to worry about influencer support. \ \ I will admit that this entire experience hasn't all been easy. I thought I was going to open up to Indigenous authors and have so many submissions, I wouldn't know how to narrow it down! But it's been a challenge! And I've been doing a lot of work, that will continue into next year, to help make sure Indigenous writers know about this incredible opportunity. \ \ The decision to open up the imprint to women writing horror was a natural one. Women have always been the heart of horror. It's time to center them.\ \ I believe that reading is resistance. And I believe that our publishing in community is resistance. I believe that traditional publishing sleeps on the best stories, the most needed stories. I believe that together we are opening up spaces for more perspectives, more stories- better stories, stories with depth, history, humor, rage and (GASP) originality. \ \ I am so excited for the future of this imprint. And I've read all 3 of her books and What Feeds Below is going to haunt you in the best way possible. \ \ If you are interested in getting all of our publishing news first, now is the time to upgrade! Truly cool! \ \ Speaking of paid members, people keep asking how best to support Boozhoo Books. Well, it's my birthday month, what a perfect time for you to upgrade! Why upgrade? A portion of your monthly fee goes into the production of the books. Yes, this means that the more paid subscribers I have, the more books we will be able to publish. We are currently approved to publish one book per year. My goal is to be able to publish four books per year. (2 women in horror, 2 books by Indigenous authors would be the ideal breakdown, but is very much dependent on the manuscripts submitted both directly and by agents). I also use a good portion of subscriber money to ship giveaways that are not held in conjunction with publishers.
