Named a Most Anticipated Book by Barnes and Noble, BuzzFeed, GoodReads, Book Riot, CrimeReads, Ms. Magazine, SheReads, Amazon Editor's Pick, Tor.com, and more!
A young Native girl's hunt for answers about the women mysteriously disappearing from her tribe's reservation leads her to delve into the myths and stories of her people, all while being haunted herself, in this atmospheric and stunningly poignant debut.
Anna Horn is always looking over her shoulder. For the bullies who torment her, for the entitled visitors at the reservation’s casino…and for the nameless, disembodied entity that stalks her every step—an ancient tribal myth come-to-life, one that’s intent on devouring her whole.
With strange and sinister happenings occurring around the casino, Anna starts to suspect that not all the horrors on the reservation are old. As girls begin to go missing and the tribe scrambles to find answers, Anna struggles with her place on the rez, desperately searching for the key she’s sure lies in the legends of her tribe’s past.
When Anna’s own little sister also disappears, she’ll do anything to bring Grace home. But the demons plaguing the reservation—both ancient and new—are strong, and sometimes, it’s the stories that never get told that are the most important.
Part gripping thriller and part mythological horror, author Nick Medina spins an incisive and timely novel of life as an outcast, the cost of forgetting tradition, and the courage it takes to become who you were always meant to be.

[Poll:\ \ Hi Friends, \ \ We are scheduled to talk to author Nick Medina tonight at 7pm EST. You will find the zoom link at the bottom of this post! Our book club Good Day To Read Indigenous read The Whistler this month (highly recommend the audio!) If you are in the bookclub, simply connect to the Discord! That's where all the fun happens!\ \ We are searching for book 2.\ \ Pitchfest ends today! I have 13-14 really great premises that I'm interested in right now, and I'm discussing them here and over on the Paid Subscriber chat in Discord. \ \ As a reminder! Paid subscribers get all of our publishing news first. Here are some things I've shared recently:\ \
- What Feeds Below: first draft cover, back copy of the book, second draft cover walkthrough\ \
- Pitchfest pitches that I'm interested in and how I go about prioritizing what I read. It's also a great way for me to get feedback on the books YOU would love to see come from this imprint. \ \ \ The book I choose now will be publishing in Spring 2027. As of right now, I am only approved to publish one book per year. There are two things that could happen to increase my chances of getting a Fall 2027 book: \ \
- Increase my paid subscribers by 100 people.\ \ \ Paid subscriptions are split 3 ways:\ \ a. goes into the production of the books we publish under this imprint\ \ b. goes back into the community. Whenever I host a giveaway where I am doing the shipping, It is $5 for media mail. \ \ c. goes to buy me an iced latte (literally lol)\ \ $5 members get e copies of the book\ \ $12 + $25 members get their names in the book on the thank you page! (and get physical copies of the book). \ \ One of our community members shamed me this morning while showing what the Bindery books signature page looks like, while showing off a final copy of Cry Voidbringer. Michael's thank you pages are like 3 pages long! We still have time to get there and for me to not be crying in the closet. (PS, Michael deserves it and go pre order Cry Voidbringer RIGHT NOW. The book comes out next week) \ \
- I believe pre-orders for What Feeds Below will start in January (don't quote me). If I can get 1,000 preorders month one, I think I would have a solid argument for getting a second book. Mind you, no one has done this as of yet. That would mean every single person in this community commits to pre-ordering the book when it first goes on sale. \ \ \ Why does this matter?\ \ Our mission has always been to amplify voices fighting to be heard. I opened up my imprint to include Women in Horror because I was not getting many Indigenous submissions. I have continued to work behind the scenes building community and getting the news of my imprint out to authors and will continue to do so.\ \ In order to meet that goal, my imprint has to exist and be profitable. Since the beginning of my platform, I have always been a vocal supporter of women writing horror. And recently learning that out of 191 authors nominated for a Bram Stoker award, only 26 women have been nominated, I've been incredibly motivated to help open doors where I can. \ \ I would love to be able to publish 1 Indigenous book and 1 horror book per year. (and as we grow, eventually 4-6 books per year with a 50/50 split whenever possible). \ \ I have received TOO MANY good manuscripts to only publish one book. Can you help support this imprint?\ \ Here is the link for tonights event with Nick Medina. This event will be spoiler free so feel free to drop by even if you haven't finished the book:\ \ Naomi Darling is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.\ \ Topic: Nick Medina + Good Day To Read Indigenous Book Club\ \ Time: Oct 22, 2025 04:00 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada)\ \ Join Zoom Meeting\ \ https://us06web.zoom.us/j/85498206762?pwd=rLvb3bQuREETEUt3XiYj8wqV453Z22.1\\ \ Meeting ID: 854 9820 6762\ \ Passcode: 048386\ \

[Hi my loves!\
\
If you aren't in the discord yet I highly recommend joining as that is where most of our discussion and updates are for book club. I posted an update in the discord notifying everyone that for at least the next couple of months we are going to pause live meetings. Our book club is still small and growing and there are some months I have had only 1 or 0 RSVPs for the live meetings (which is fine - never any pressure to join!!) but I figured it would be better at least for a bit to make sure more people can be included in our discussions. To do this I am going to focus on discord chat and polls throughout the month to keep as many people engaged in the discussion (on our own time) as possible.\
\
Our book for February is Sisters of the Lost Nation by Nick Medina - I can't wait to chit chat with you all about it :) \
\
A calendar is here that will help us all stay on track the rest of the month to make sure we try to finish the book before March suddenly appears. \

[Hi inner circle members! It is time to vote on our book club selections for January and February of 2025 :)\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ Click here for January Poll\\ \*\ \ Click here for February Poll\\* \**\ \
- For January our choices are:\
- The Good House by Tananarive Due\
- Angela hoped her grandmother's famous "healing magic" could save her failing marriage while she and her family lived in the old house the summer of 2001. Instead, an unexpected tragedy ripped Angela's family apart. Two years later, Angela is moving past her grief and is finally ready to revisit the rural house she loved so much as a child. But back in Sacajawea, she discovers she hasn't been the only one to suffer a shocking loss. Since she left, there have been more senseless tragedies, and Angela wonders whether they are related somehow. Could the events be linked to a terrifying entity her grandmother battled in 1929? Did her teenage son, Corey, reawaken something that should have been left sleeping? With the help of Myles Fisher, her high school boyfriend, and clues from beyond the grave, Angela races to solve a deadly puzzle that has followed her family for generations. She must summon her own hidden gifts to face the timeless adversary stalking her in her grandmother's house--and in the Washington woods.\
- Maeve Fly by CJ Leede\
- A provocative and unforgettable debut that is both a blood-soaked love letter to Los Angeles and a gleeful send-up to iconic horror villains, Maeve Fly will thrill fans of slashers and the macabre. By day, Maeve Fly works at the happiest place in the world as every child’s favorite ice princess. By the neon night glow of the Sunset Strip, Maeve haunts the dive bars with a drink in one hand and a book in the other, imitating her misanthropic literary heroes. But when Gideon Green - her best friend’s brother - moves to town, he awakens something dangerous within her, and the world she knows suddenly shifts beneath her feet. Untethered, Maeve ditches her discontented act and tries on a new persona. A bolder, bloodier one, inspired by the pages of American Psycho. Step aside Patrick Bateman, it’s Maeve’s turn with the knife.\

- The Resurrectionist by A. Rae Dunlap\
- In the tradition of The Alienist and A Love Story, a decadently macabre, dark and twisty gothic debut set in 19th century Scotland – when real-life serial killers Burke and Hare terrorized the streets of Edinburgh – as a young medical student is lured into the illicit underworld of body snatching. Historical fiction, true crime, and dark academia intertwine in a harrowing tale of murder, greed, and the grisly origins of modern medicine for readers of Lydia Kang, ML Rio, Sarah Perry, and C.E. McGill.\ \ Join for free or login](https://egp.binderybooks.com/item/4JCeHkJSe15akqL7O9yp/)
