Taking us back to a time that is half history, half myth and wholly magical, bestselling author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni gives voice to Panchaali, the fire-born heroine of the Mahabharata, as she weaves a vibrant retelling of an ancient epic saga.

Married to five royal husbands who have been cheated out of their father's kingdom, Panchaali aids their quest to reclaim their birthright, remaining at their side through years of exile and a terrible civil war.

But she cannot deny her complicated friendship with the enigmatic Krishna—or her secret attraction to the mysterious man who is her husbands' most dangerous enemy—as she is caught up in the ever-manipulating hands of fate.

📚💭: the palace of illusions by chitra banerjee divakaruni

this was my first book by the author!! definitely not the last tho!

this one was a very highly anticipated read since it’s so popular and i enjoyed it a lot! i’m not well versed in the hindu epics so reading this retelling of mahabharat from draupadi’s perspective was really interesting and unique!

i enjoyed all the foreshadowing moments in the book and really liked how the writing style elevated those moments. there was lot of beautiful prose and dialogues that i loved and annotated! swipe to see some of them!

overall, i enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more of the author’s other works!! (the forest of enchantments is next on my list!)

❓: do you like to read mythology books? what are some of your favs?
