#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the indie rock sensation known as Japanese Breakfast, an unforgettable memoir about family, food, grief, love, and growing up Korean American—“in losing her mother and cooking to bring her back to life, Zauner became herself” (NPR). • CELEBRATING OVER ONE YEAR ON THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER LIST.
In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother's particular, high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother's tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food.
As she grew up, moving to the East Coast for college, finding work in the restaurant industry, and performing gigs with her fledgling band—and meeting the man who would become her husband—her Koreanness began to feel ever more distant, even as she found the life she wanted to live. It was her mother's diagnosis of terminal cancer, when Michelle was twenty-five, that forced a reckoning with her identity and brought her to reclaim the gifts of taste, language, and history her mother had given her.
Vivacious and plainspoken, lyrical and honest, Zauner's voice is as radiantly alive on the page as it is onstage. Rich with intimate anecdotes that will resonate widely, and complete with family photos, Crying in H Mart is a book to cherish, share, and reread.

\ \ ☁️ Happy AANHPI Month!! ☁️\ \ This is a very very small list of book recommendations across 7 genres. Drop your favorite in the comments (if it’s not listed here!)\ \ When I was researching books for this post, I was getting extremely frustrated with the grouping together of Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Native Hawaiians. We are a group of so many identities & cultures. South Asian people alone have so many subgroups & cultures, its annoying to be put into this generic box. I only added 9 books for each genre so this list is definitely not indicative of the wide range of people that we are! I hope you find your next favorite read from here 😃\ \ \ \ 𝐅 𝐀 𝐍 𝐓 𝐀 𝐒 𝐘\ \ ✨The Legend Of Meneka\ \ ✨And The Sky Bled\ \ ✨Jade City\ \ ✨The Jasmine Throne\ \ ✨Kaikeyi\ \ ✨The Spear Cuts Through Water\ \ ✨Babel\ \ ✨She Who Became the Sun\ \ ✨This Monster of Mine\ \ \ \ 𝐘 𝐀 𝐅 𝐀 𝐍 𝐓 𝐀 𝐒 𝐘\ \ ✨Star Daughter\ \ ✨An Ember in the Ashes\ \ ✨Six Crimson Cranes\ \ ✨We Hunt the Flame\ \ ✨Dragonfruit\ \ ✨Daughter of the Moon Goddess\ \ ✨Magic Has No Borders\ \ ✨We Shall Be Monsters\ \ ✨The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea\ \ \ \ 𝐑 𝐎 𝐌 𝐀 𝐍 𝐂 𝐄\ \ ♥️ The Kiss Quotient\ \ ♥️ The Trouble with Hating You\ \ ♥️ Marriage & Masti\ \ ♥️ Not Safe for Work\ \ ♥️ Ying Yang Love Song\ \ ♥️ Say You’ll Be Mine\ \ ♥️ Sorry, Bro\ \ ♥️ The Right Swipe\ \ ♥️ The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches\ \ \ \ 𝐘 𝐀 𝐑 𝐎 𝐌 𝐀 𝐍 𝐂 𝐄\ \ ♥️ Eliza, from Scratch\ \ ♥️ When Dimple met Rishi\ \ ♥️ If You Could See the Sun\ \ ♥️ Sanskari Sweetheart\ \ ♥️ The Romance Rivalry\ \ ♥️ The Love Match\ \ ♥️ Clementine & Danny Save the World\ \ ♥️ Radha & Jai’s Recipe for Romance\ \ ♥️ XOXO\ \ \ \ 𝐌 𝐘 𝐒 𝐓 𝐄 𝐑 𝐘\ \ 🔍 Arsenic & Adobo\ \ 🔍 Death of a Lesser God\ \ 🔍 Accidental Alchemist\ \ 🔍 The Frangipani Tree Mystery\ \ 🔍 The Bandit Queens\ \ 🔍 Now You See Us\ \ 🔍 Everything I Never Told You\ \ 🔍 Iced In Paradise\ \ 🔍 Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers\ \ \ \ 𝐅 𝐈 𝐂 𝐓 𝐈 𝐎 𝐍\ \ 💫 The Joy Luck Club\ \ 💫 Yellowface\ \ 💫 Tiare in Bloom\ \ 💫 On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous\ \ 💫 The Namesake\ \ 💫 Pachinko\ \ 💫 The Daughters of Madurai\ \ 💫 The Henna Artist\ \ 💫 Beasts of a Little Land\ \ \ \ 𝐍 𝐎 𝐍 - 𝐅 𝐈 𝐂 𝐓 𝐈 𝐎 𝐍\ \ 📖 Crying in H Mart\ \ 📖 The Ivory Throne\ \ 📖 The Making of Asian America\ \ 📖 Born in Paradise\ \ 📖 Stay True\ \ 📖 Minor Feelings\ \ 📖 Year of the Tiger\ \ 📖 All You Can Ever Know\ \ 📖 Know My Name\ \ Join for free or login](https://moonlitfables.binderybooks.com/item/GFnyCXCJkl7HTigsOYKq/)
