Named a Best Book of the Year by The Washington Post, Time, NPR, Amazon, Vice, Bustle, The New York Times, The Guardian, Kirkus Reviews, Entertainment Weekly, The AV Club, & Audible. A New York Times Bestseller.

“One of the most compelling protagonists modern fiction has offered in years: a loopy, quietly furious pillhead whose Ambien ramblings and Xanaxed b*tcheries somehow wend their way through sad and funny and strange toward something genuinely profound.” — Entertainment Weekly

“Darkly hilarious . . . [Moshfegh’s] the kind of provocateur who makes you laugh out loud while drawing blood.” — Vogue

From one of our boldest, most celebrated new literary voices, a novel about a young woman's efforts to duck the ills of the world by embarking on an extended hibernation with the help of one of the worst psychiatrists in the annals of literature and the battery of medicines she prescribes.

Our narrator should be happy, shouldn't she? She's young, thin, pretty, a recent Columbia graduate, works an easy job at a hip art gallery, lives in an apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan paid for, like the rest of her needs, by her inheritance.

But there is a dark and vacuous hole in her heart, and it isn't just the loss of her parents, or the way her Wall Street boyfriend treats her, or her sadomasochistic relationship with her best friend, Reva. It's the year 2000 in a city aglitter with wealth and possibility; what could be so terribly wrong?

My Year of Rest and Relaxation is a powerful answer to that question. Through the story of a year spent under the influence of a truly mad combination of drugs designed to heal our heroine from her alienation from this world, Moshfegh shows us how reasonable, even necessary, alienation can be.

Both tender and blackly funny, merciless and compassionate, it is a showcase for the gifts of one of our major writers working at the height of her powers.

[First, A Few Announcements!\ **Announcement #1: **Starting with my next video in April, I will be adding all of my paid Bindery members’ names to a Thank-You credit screen at the beginning of each of my videos! 🎉 Update your “credit name” on Bindery and I’ll be adding that name to my credits. New members will be added to the credits as they join and canceled members will be removed from future videos after their cancellation date.\ \ I’m hoping this will be a fun perk for all of you and I’m so excited to thank you on screen 💛\ \ Announcement #2: Starting this month I’ll be taking TBR jar requests! Leave a comment on this post with the name of whichever book you’d like me to read and I will add it to my TBR jar to pull from every month during my TBR video. This is a fun way for you to dictate what I read/film and your TBR jar requests can either be books you’ve read and loved or even books you’re interested in but that you want me to try out first! I will periodically ask for more requests as I run out so this is the first of many chances to submit!\ \ Announcement #3: Finally, starting next month I’m hoping to focus on my writing more and as such I’ll be posting a monthly public vlog updating everyone on the process of writing my book and I will be sharing exclusive excerpts here just for my Bindery members 😄I hope this will be a fun thing for all of you and a more behind-the-scenes look at what I’m working on.\ \ \ \ Announcements over! Here’s my regularly scheduled journal update!\ \ What’s going on with me\ \ I’m excited to share that my fulltime job is finally going to ease up for the foreseeable future! We had a really important launch this month that we were all working extremely hard on for the past few months. I was working lots of late nights and to be honest, haven’t had much mental energy for other things beyond work.\ \ However, now that the launch is over (woo hoo 🎉) I’m excited to shift some mental energy away from work and back to YouTube and to writing. I’m hoping to work from home a bit more these next few months so that I can dedicate more time to what I want to be doing.\ \ \ \ How I’m doing ~ mentally ~\ \ Although I’m more adjusted to my medications now, my stress levels haven’t been great. I recently had to delete my YouTube Studio app on my phone which shows me all my YouTube analytics. I realized that I had a really unhealthy relationship with that app because I found myself opening it over 50 times a day to reload and see if my subscriber count had gone up or not. I’ve been hovering at 99,900-99,960 subscribers for the past few weeks and it’s been driving me a little nuts lol. I don’t usually like to think about numbers for my channel because it takes a lot of the fun out of things and I think I just need to remind myself of my priorities and get back into the fun of things without worrying about things I can’t control. Easier said than done of course but I’m going to try!\ \ \ \ What I’m working on this week:\ \ This week I’ve been working on a vlog where I read viral booktok sad hot girl books / unhinged women books. I’ve just finished the first book and hoping to finish at least a couple more before the video has to go up.\ \ This weekend I’ll also be filming a couple other videos:\ \

Tier-ranking my old favourite YA books (think Shadow and Bone, Hunger Games, Mortal Instruments, etc)\
Reacting to 1 star reviews of my favourite books\ \ \ \ What I’m currently reading:\ \ As part of the sad hot girl books vlog I just finished My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh. I have so many thoughts on this one!!\ \ What I’m watching:\ \ I’ve been recently getting back into watching more booktube again and of course I went back to one of my tried and true favourites — booksandlala ! I was watching one of Kayla’s recent vlogs where she reads books based off their 1 star reviews and it was just so entertaining. You can watch the video here. I’m thinking of doing this same concept sometime soon!\ \ \ \ Aaaaand that’s all from me for today! Hope you’re all doing well! Let me know how you’re all doing, what you’re up to, and what you’re reading <3](https://boundless.binderybooks.com/item/SXdIy74WLZMpDaHn03Md/)
