A man lunges in front of a car. An elderly woman silently drowns herself. A corpse sits up in its coffin and speaks. On this reservation, not all is what it seems, in this new spine-chilling mythological horror from the author of Sisters of the Lost Nation.

All Noemi Broussard wanted was a fresh start. With a new boyfriend who actually treats her right and a plan to move from the reservation she grew up on—just like her beloved Uncle Louie before her—things are finally looking up for Noemi. Until the news of her boyfriend’s apparent suicide brings her world crumbling down.

But the facts about Roddy’s death just don’t add up, and Noemi isn’t the only one who suspects that something menacing might be lurking within their tribal lands.

After over a decade away, Uncle Louie has returned to the reservation, bringing with him a past full of secrets, horror, and what might be the key to determining Roddy’s true cause of death. Together, Noemi and Louie set out to find answers...but as they get closer to the truth, Noemi begins to wonder whether it might be best for some secrets to remain buried.

Poll:\ \ Recommendation Videos? \ \ Something I'd like to post more of on our bookstore social media accounts are recommendation videos for our favorite (insert trope or genre). Is that something you'd all like to see? \ \ For instance, a starter one would be "Ryn's Favorite Indigenous Horror" and it would be (let's be real) books like Indian Burial Ground by Nick Medina and The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones with White Horse by Erika T. Wurth thrown in as well! \ \ Help out by filling out the poll on this post!

[Poll:\ \ Hi Friends, \ \ We are scheduled to talk to author Nick Medina tonight at 7pm EST. You will find the zoom link at the bottom of this post! Our book club Good Day To Read Indigenous read The Whistler this month (highly recommend the audio!) If you are in the bookclub, simply connect to the Discord! That's where all the fun happens!\ \ We are searching for book 2.\ \ Pitchfest ends today! I have 13-14 really great premises that I'm interested in right now, and I'm discussing them here and over on the Paid Subscriber chat in Discord. \ \ As a reminder! Paid subscribers get all of our publishing news first. Here are some things I've shared recently:\ \

  1. What Feeds Below: first draft cover, back copy of the book, second draft cover walkthrough\ \
  2. Pitchfest pitches that I'm interested in and how I go about prioritizing what I read. It's also a great way for me to get feedback on the books YOU would love to see come from this imprint. \ \ \ The book I choose now will be publishing in Spring 2027. As of right now, I am only approved to publish one book per year. There are two things that could happen to increase my chances of getting a Fall 2027 book: \ \
  3. Increase my paid subscribers by 100 people.\ \ \ Paid subscriptions are split 3 ways:\ \ a. goes into the production of the books we publish under this imprint\ \ b. goes back into the community. Whenever I host a giveaway where I am doing the shipping, It is $5 for media mail. \ \ c. goes to buy me an iced latte (literally lol)\ \ $5 members get e copies of the book\ \ $12 + $25 members get their names in the book on the thank you page! (and get physical copies of the book). \ \ One of our community members shamed me this morning while showing what the Bindery books signature page looks like, while showing off a final copy of Cry Voidbringer. Michael's thank you pages are like 3 pages long! We still have time to get there and for me to not be crying in the closet. (PS, Michael deserves it and go pre order Cry Voidbringer RIGHT NOW. The book comes out next week) \ \
  4. I believe pre-orders for What Feeds Below will start in January (don't quote me). If I can get 1,000 preorders month one, I think I would have a solid argument for getting a second book. Mind you, no one has done this as of yet. That would mean every single person in this community commits to pre-ordering the book when it first goes on sale. \ \ \ Why does this matter?\ \ Our mission has always been to amplify voices fighting to be heard. I opened up my imprint to include Women in Horror because I was not getting many Indigenous submissions. I have continued to work behind the scenes building community and getting the news of my imprint out to authors and will continue to do so.\ \ In order to meet that goal, my imprint has to exist and be profitable. Since the beginning of my platform, I have always been a vocal supporter of women writing horror. And recently learning that out of 191 authors nominated for a Bram Stoker award, only 26 women have been nominated, I've been incredibly motivated to help open doors where I can. \ \ I would love to be able to publish 1 Indigenous book and 1 horror book per year. (and as we grow, eventually 4-6 books per year with a 50/50 split whenever possible). \ \ I have received TOO MANY good manuscripts to only publish one book. Can you help support this imprint?\ \ Here is the link for tonights event with Nick Medina. This event will be spoiler free so feel free to drop by even if you haven't finished the book:\ \ Naomi Darling is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.\ \ Topic: Nick Medina + Good Day To Read Indigenous Book Club\ \ Time: Oct 22, 2025 04:00 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada)\ \ Join Zoom Meeting\ \ https://us06web.zoom.us/j/85498206762?pwd=rLvb3bQuREETEUt3XiYj8wqV453Z22.1\\ \ Meeting ID: 854 9820 6762\ \ Passcode: 048386\ \

Poll:\ \ Like most Virgos, I celebrate my birthday all season, so you'll have to excuse my mention of it eleventy billion times, but MY BIRTHDAY IS NEXT WEDNESDAY!\ \ In case you missed it, I am giving away a special edition box set of The Broken Earth trilogy by NK Jemisin. You can enter here and you have until the end of the month to enter. (US only)\ \ Our Women in Horror book club is reading The Possession of Alba Diaz by Isabel Cañas in September and I am giving away 5 copies. The winner will be selected Tuesday at 430pm PST. You can enter here. (US and Canada). \ \ Our Good Day to Read Indigenous book club is reading Legendary Frybread Drive-in: Intertribal Stories in September. \ \ Both bookclubs are held in Discord. If you aren't connected yet, you can connect through this page. \ \ The community Discord i s a great place to connect with other readers who enjoy reading diversely (even if you don't have time to participate in the bookclubs! There is literally a channel for everything (including HOT BOOK GOSSIP lol). If you are a paid member, you have access to a private paid member channel where we talk about all things publishing and you get to participate in some of the publishing decisions. Truly cool! \ \ Speaking of paid members, people keep asking how best to support Boozhoo Books. Well, it's my birthday month, what a perfect time for you to upgrade! Why upgrade? A portion of your monthly fee goes into the production of the books. Yes, this means that the more paid subscribers I have, the more books we will be able to publish. We are currently approved to publish one book per year. My goal is to be able to publish four books per year. (2 women in horror, 2 books by Indigenous authors would be the ideal breakdown, but is very much dependent on the manuscripts submitted both directly and by agents). I also use a good portion of subscriber money to ship giveaways that are not held in conjunction with publishers. (the NK Jemisin in shipping directly from me, for example).\ \ $5 subscribers will get ebook copies of all of our published books. \ \ $12 and $25 will get physical copies and their names on the contributor page. (How freaking cool is that!) \ \ If you can commit to subscribing for the entire year for $5 a month, it would be at the price of buying two hard cover books! \ \ Other Ways To Support\ \ **Shop My Pango!**I've still got 115 books listed and I'm trying to make money to pay for my October NY trip. If you didn't hear the news, I was accepted as a Content Creator for New York Comic Con! (While I get into the con for free, I'm still paying for travel expenses!) and luckily celebrating the releases of the new Bindery Books the same week! (It's a holiday week, so I will be shipping Weds August 27 (my birthday. yes, I'm going to the post office on my birthday LOL) and then not again until Weds, September 3. I've got a lot of great stuff listed and am adding new books every day!\ \ Use the books tagged in one of my Bindery posts when you go book shopping online! Anytime you click on one of the books attached to these posts and go shopping, I earn a small percentage, even if you don't buy any of the books I listed. (And if you buy from bookshop dot org, you are also supporting Black Walnut Books, an Indigenous owned bookstore!) \ \ Share This Community! If you're just not spending money right now, the easiest way to help is spread the word about this community and encourage your friends to join FOR FREE! I have a free follower goal of 10,000 and it is a BIG goal that I won't be able to reach without you. If you have friends that read diverse books, please encourage them to join!\ \ Upcoming Events\ \ 10/22: Author Chat: Nick Medina (The Whistler, Indian Burial Ground, Sisters of the Lost Nation)\ \ 10/29: Author Chat: Daphne Fama (House of Monstrous Women)\ \ More TBA
