The NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR of _Rock Paper Scissors_ returns with a locked-room mystery when a family reunion leads to murder in a delightfully twisty and atmospheric thriller, as seen on the TODAY show. “A dysfunctional family meets Agatha Christie’s _And Then There Were None_ with a truly gasp-inducing twist. This is the book you’ve been looking for.” —Catherine Ryan Howard, bestselling author of _56 Days_. Daisy Darker was born with a broken heart. Now after years of avoiding each other, Daisy Darker’s entire family is assembling for Nana’s 80th birthday party in her crumbling gothic house on a tiny tidal island. The family arrives, each of them harboring secrets. When the tide comes in, they will be cut off from the rest of the world for eight hours. But at the stroke of midnight, as a storm rages, Nana is found dead. And an hour later, the next family member follows…. Trapped on an island where someone is killing them one by one, the Darkers must reckon with their present mystery as well as their past secrets, before the tide goes out and all is revealed. As seen on the TODAY show and picked by Book of the Month, Daisy Darker’s family secrets and Alice Feeney’s trademark shocking twists will keep readers riveted. I have zero credentials, I am just a person with too many opinions. I love some "over-hyped" books and I have some thoughts on others. I try to be kind/constructive when negatively reviewing books on my public profiles but here I want to let it all out! Also please don't be mad at me lol **_\*\*\*POSSIBLE SPOILERS\*\*\*_**\\ \\ **The Perfect Marriage - Jeneva Rose** Starting with something I've already said but there's a scene (that does not need to be included at all) where the MC needs to "let off steam" and it's mentioned that "someone" walks in. Now that doesn't have to be a bad thing but it's not revealed who that "someone" is until the end. Honestly it just felt like lazy writing or it's insulting to the reader. My thought is that the author didn't know where she was going until she got to the end and pulled a name out of a hat. It's great pacing but it's definitely a popcorn thriller and I can't imagine how the rest of the series goes. \\ \\ **No Exit - Taylor Adams** I was shocked that this is the same author who wrote The Last Word. First, the main character kept making bad decision after bad decision. I got to the point where I wasn't even frustrated with her, I predicted the worst possible thing someone could do in this situation and sure enough she would do that. While I do love an action packed thriller, it got to a point where there is almost no suspense. I did really want to love this and I actually did enjoy how it ended but it was more frustrating than anything. \\ \\ **Daisy Darker - Alice Feeney** This is the only book I've read from Alice Feeney and I DO plan on picking something else up from the author. _(Let me know what else I should pick up, I'm thinking Beautiful Ugly?)_ I could not stand the Pinterest level quote at the end of every single chapter. It's like it was trying to wise or build tension but I found myself rolling my eyes more than anything. The pacing is quite awful and the constant complaining from our MC made for a very long reading experience. As the youngest sibling myself, of course you couldn't go to the high school party, YOU'RE 10??? Obviously more happens that night but I don't think you're the unloved child because you weren't allowed to do things your older siblings did. I thought it was strange to hold onto grudges like this well into adulthood. If I didn't buy this book and have a physical copy it would have been a DNF.\\ \*\*For the sake of space, I've linked the books so you can read description if you want! \\ \\ Upgrade for $5 or login](https://madisoncanread.binderybooks.com/item/LBHRR7YkvDH9d2fAoYLx/) [Unfiltered thoughts on popular "booktok books"](https://madisoncanread.binderybooks.com/item/LBHRR7YkvDH9d2fAoYLx/) * * * 3 books [Madisoncanread\\ \\ Madison\\ \\ • May 22 2025](https://madisoncanread.binderybooks.com/) Join for free [If you like this, read this!](https://madisoncanread.binderybooks.com/item/aGsVXXaJcbQz4GslWZU3/) If you like this, read this! #madisoncanread #horrorbooks #thrillerbooks #ifyoulikethisbookreadthisbook #ifyoulikethistrythat #Inverted * * * 24 books [Boundless Press\\ \\ Jananie\\ \\ • Sep 11 2024](https://boundless.binderybooks.com/) Let me know your favourite fall books! 🍂 * * * 37 books [Boundless Press\\ \\ Jananie\\ \\ • Mar 25 2023](https://boundless.binderybooks.com/) [captivating books you can read in a single day 📚 \| book recommendations](https://boundless.binderybooks.com/item/N4Y4Zyndxg2sU2XAkRuH/) Check out Shelf Savvy here and sign-up for FREE: https://shelfsavvy.com/audiobook?utm\_kxconfid=tzaxnljnf&utm\_medium=tiktok&utm\_source=paid&utm\_campaign=shelfsavvy\_2023\_jananie This video was sponsored by Shelf Savvy. 💓 join as a channel member to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJn0v3OAEAX3-V4crjcHtRA/join 🤍 timestamps ↳ 0:00 opening thoughts ↳ 0:52 non-fiction recs ↳ 5:40 general/literary fiction ↳ 10:37 romances (with other aspects to them) ↳ 15:33 thrillers ↳ 18:30 speculative fiction / fantasy / horror ↳ 22:20 final thoughts 💌 for business/sponsorship inquiries please contact eric@smallscreenmarketing.com 💌 for all other inquiries please contact me at thisstoryaintover@gmail.com faqs 🤍 how do you pronounce your name? \- my name is Jananie—pronounced JEN-nah-nee (like a knee!) 🤍 what's your background/ethnicity/etc? \- both my parents are Sri Lankan Tamil, and I was born and raised in Canada! 🤍 what is your job? \- aside from youtube I also work in product marketing! * * * 13 books [Boundless Press\\ \\ Jananie\\ \\ • Feb 6 2023](https://boundless.binderybooks.com/) [what i read in january \| yellowface, hell bent, tomorrow x 3, love on the brain](https://boundless.binderybooks.com/item/P8D3dk5kajdSODKqM7qg/) Let me know what y'all thought of these books! who's excited for YELLOWFACE? 👀 harpercollins union resources: https://linktr.ee/hcpunion 💓 join as a channel member to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJn0v3OAEAX3-V4crjcHtRA/join 💌 for business/sponsorship inquiries please contact eric@smallscreenmarketing.com 💌 for all other inquiries please contact me at thisstoryaintover@gmail.com faqs 🤍 how do you pronounce your name? \- my name is Jananie—pronounced JEN-nah-nee (like a knee!) 🤍 what's your background/ethnicity/etc? \- both my parents are Sri Lankan Tamil, and I was born and raised in Canada! 🤍 what is your job? \- aside from youtube I also work in product marketing! * * * 11 books [Boundless Press\\ \\ Jananie\\ \\ • Jan 17 2023](https://boundless.binderybooks.com/) [reading booktubers' favourite books of 2022](https://boundless.binderybooks.com/item/lRMsMqCFXYwmBZZQ3wL8/) 💓 join as a channel member to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJn0v3OAEAX3-V4crjcHtRA/join 💌 for business/sponsorship inquiries please contact eric@smallscreenmarketing.com 💌 for all other inquiries please contact me at thisstoryaintover@gmail.com faqs 🤍 how do you pronounce your name? \- my name is Jananie—pronounced JEN-nah-nee (like a knee!) 🤍 what's your background/ethnicity/etc? \- both my parents are Sri Lankan Tamil, and I was born and raised in Canada! 🤍 what is your job? \- aside from youtube I also work in product marketing! * * * 5 books [Boundless Press\\ \\ Jananie\\ \\ • Aug 6 2022](https://boundless.binderybooks.com/) [unhauling all your favourite books + a Q&A!](https://boundless.binderybooks.com/item/Kh6NFiNKGpBysDQSWWHf/) other places to find me 🤍 my website: https://www.jananiekvelu.com/ 🤍 my series # EpicBookRecs on the Epic Reads Channel: https://bit.ly/2XziOfz 💌 for business/sponsorship inquiries please contact eric@smallscreenmarketing.com 💌 for all other inquiries please contact me at thisstoryaintover@gmail.com faqs 🤍 how do you pronounce your name? \- my name is Jananie—pronounced JEN-nah-nee (like a knee!) 🤍 what's your background/ethnicity/etc? \- both my parents are Sri Lankan Tamil, and I was born and raised in Canada! 🤍 what is your job? \- aside from youtube I also work in product marketing! * * * 54 books
