KAIKEYI has truly become my favourite book of all-time ✨ Not only does Vaishnavi Patel do wonders with the source mythology—bringing vilified and heroic characters alike into new lights—but she weaves the most fascinating and empowering story of a woman looking out for other women. The book explores topics of faith, war, statecraft, and motherhood but also the dangers of unchecked misogyny and patriarchy.
I felt so deeply for Kaikeyi and the empathy and resilience she possessed. She goes down as one of the most well written and complex characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I saw so much of myself in Kaikeyi and reading the exploits of characters I had grown up hearing about as a kid was the most validating experience ever. The friendships and bonds within this book will stay with me for years to come and I hope that this book will take the place on shelves among other greats.

I'd recommend this to anyone who loved Circe by Madeline Miller but who wants to explore a non-Western mythology. If you love feminist takes on old tales then this is definitely the book for you.
