📚💭: kaikeyi by vaishnavi patel
“After all, Kaikeyi isn’t about the legendary prince… it’s about the wicked stepmother.”
I had high expectations for this book and it met all of them and more!! What an amazing retelling! The last line of the book and its impact, I cannot you guys.
This Indian mythology book is the reimagining of one of the vilified stepmother from the Hindu epic, Ramayana, Kaikeyi. Growing up in an Indian household, I’ve heard the Hindu epic numerous times growing up, but I had always only heard of everything that happens after the events of this book, mainly the Ram- Ravana war and all. And even then I only knew the very basics. So when I started this book, I had no idea who Kaikeyi was or the things she had done (good and bad, according to the epic). So, I kind of just went into the story with limited knowledge and I would highly recommend reading it with little to no research, or just knowing about the events that occur after the events of this book because it’s almost better that way.

📚💭: the palace of illusions by chitra banerjee divakaruni
this was my first book by the author!! definitely not the last tho!
this one was a very highly anticipated read since it’s so popular and I enjoyed it a lot! i’m not well versed in the hindu epics so reading this retelling of mahabharat from draupadi’s perspective was really interesting and unique!
