LPN Picks: The Poppy Wars
While Babel usually gets a lot of the attention when people talk about Kuang, the Poppy War Trilogy is an incredible series too. Instead of a fantasy world based on a European medieval setting, the Poppy War has a decidedly Eastern perspective. These differences create fascinating characters and situations that make the fantasy genre feel new again. Kuang has also created a difficult and sometimes unlikable main character whom you truly root for and care about, which is a near impossible task. I devoured this series.

LPN Picks: Midnight In Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham
I picked up this book in the summer of 2024 as part of a book club and have since been trying to find ways to erase my memory so I can re-live reading it for the first time. The book covers the meltdown of Reactor Number Four at the Chernobyl Atomic Energy Station in Ukraine. It is meticulously researched, giving the HBO miniseries a run for its money. The narrative is compelling and goes to great lengths to acknowledge as many people involved in the disaster as possible.
