The New York Times bestselling author of All the Stars and Teeth brings to life a highly romantic, Gothic-infused world of wealth, desire, and betrayal.
Orphaned as a baby, nineteen-year-old Signa has been raised by a string of guardians, each more interested in her wealth than her well-being—and each has met an untimely end. Her remaining relatives are the elusive Hawthornes, an eccentric family living at Thorn Grove, an estate both glittering and gloomy. Its patriarch mourns his late wife through wild parties, while his son grapples for control of the family’s waning reputation and his daughter suffers from a mysterious illness.
But when their mother’s restless spirit appears claiming she was poisoned, Signa realizes that the family she depends on could be in grave danger and enlists the help of a surly stable boy to hunt down the killer.
However, Signa’s best chance of uncovering the murderer is an alliance with Death himself, a fascinating, dangerous shadow who has never been far from her side. Though he’s made her life a living hell, Death shows Signa that their growing connection may be more powerful—and more irresistible—than she ever dared imagine.

My full stack from our book swap yesterday! I forgot to take a photo of my donation pile, but I definitely left with ones that I am way more excited about. I did pass along some very loved books that I know I will never read again and deserve a spot in someone else’s library–whoever got To Shape a Dragon’s Breath, I hope you love it as much as I did.
Do you have any favorites in this stack?
Also, check out my cute new earrings! Shout out to makers who have clip on options for those of us with metal allergies.

Reviews are for readers, but are author safe spaces disappearing? | Belladonna Drama Explained
In this episode of Let's Discuss Book Stuff, we are discussing the latest Belladonna controversy. Is it appropriate to tag authors in negative reviews? Does Instagram (and social media in general) count as a safe space for readers/reviews? Is there an "optional" rule when it comes to leaving critiques and interacting with authors?
Authors have been attacked more and more lately, from not liking their books, not agreeing with their opinion on fictional characters, or even becoming outraged when authors want to advocate for their community or attend events and meet readers. Many authors are welcomed with criticism more and more frequently, from online (in non-traditional reviewer spaces) to events in real life that can pose a safety risk. I fear that more and more authors will decline to be "accessible" online and in real life.
Where does this leave the state of publishing, readers, reviewers, and the entire community?
