[Hello my friends,\ \ I apologize it has been so long since my last newsletter. Grief does this funny thing that paralyzes you into this certain rut that makes even the most menial tasks seem insufferable and hard, like charging my laptop to even begin this newsletter. \ \ I entitled this post Sunday Scaries* because, 1) it's Sunday, and 2) Every day since June 16th for me has had it's own set of "scaries." Last week marked 1 entire month that my Memaw left this earth, left me, and I have struggled both loudly and privately, and both seem like my grief is taking up space in a world that doesn't stop spinning or propelling me forward, whether I want it to or not. It's this feeling of being stuck in time, in a moment, while the world around you still moves incredibly fast and you can't keep up. I have noticed myself holding my breath and breathing out loudly, like a deep sigh, quite often. My friend, who is also a grief counselor, told me it's my body's way of bracing for emotional impact and then letting myself breathe when it knows I'm safe. Which, ya know, my body is still doing one month later.\ \ I have a therapist, who I've seen since I moved to Green Bay. But I recently started grief therapy last week, and we'll be meeting regularly for a while for the foreseeable future. I also have started a couple books, recommended or sent to me by friends that I've been slowly delving into as time (and my brain) allows:\ \
- It's Ok That You're Not Ok: Meeting Grief And Loss In A Culture That Doesn't Understand by Megan Devine\ \
- Welcome To The Grief Club: Because You Don't Have To Go Through It Alone by Janine Kwoh\ \ I also have purchased two journals as of recent, one is to write letters to Memaw (this one is leather that I personalized the cover) and the other is just to process my grief as I see fit - be it stories, how I'm feeling, memories, etc. I haven't really began the journaling process yet; it both scares me and intimidates me at once. Where do I even begin, ya know? \ \ I'm writing all of this to you, because grief is just a part of life. And I didn't really understand, or really even give it any thought, because I hadn't experienced grief of this magnitude before. If you love someone or something in any capacity, at some point down the road, grief will inevitably follow. And society really doesn't help you process that grief, I've learned. People stop checking in after a while, or expect you to go back to how you were before it happened. Work still needs to be completed. Kids still need you. Spouses need you. You need you. My place of work has been so supportive of me through traveling back to NC to pay my respects, time off to grieve/go to therapy, etc., but ya know, I still need to show up to work. Bills have to be paid; life keeps moving forward.\ \ I wanted to take a while to collect myself before writing to all of you, and while I'm still not 100% yet, I don't think I ever will be honestly, I wanted to let you know that it's okay to take time for you. To reset. To grieve. To process your emotions. I've always aspired to be as transparent as possible with you, and that will continue. I know I will not be "normal" as the version of me that was before Memaw passed is no longer. There's a deep ache that I know cannot be fixed with time or space or copious amounts of therapy. It's an ache that will always be present, but one that I will also grow around, and transform into someone else entirely new because of. That isn't a bad thing. I'm still learning, and growing, and figuring out my new "normal." And while I do that, I will also be transparent with you. Grief has no time constraints. It truly does hit you out of nowhere. And I'm slowly learning to embrace that, to let the feelings ebb and flow as they come, and sit with them when they do arrive. \ \ In writing all of this to you, I want you to know that the books I'm currently reading right now are all about grief, as that is where I'm at in life right now. BUT with that said, I did pick up Heartstopper, Volume 6 to read at some point here soon. \ \ We will resume our zoom meeting at some point, as I'm talking with the authors now, so stay tuned for those updated details. I'm not going anywhere, and I know that jumping back into things for routine, is also important for me and my mental health. And also? I miss you guys. \ \ As we prepare for the new week ahead, I hope each of you are taking care of not only one another, but yourselves. \ \ Be on the lookout for the Trans Joy Thursday newsletter, because if you're local? You definitely don't want to miss a big announcement I have that I can talk about now.\ \ See you in Discord,\ \ With all my trans joy I can muster today,\ \ Sawyer Cole\ \ Join for free or login](https://notaphase.binderybooks.com/item/58KZLWPFZTIzrS5uqr1f/)
