Between the Plans of Fate and the Whims of Coincidence, Can Love Find Room to Grow?
Seventeen-year-old Jonathan Daniels is a high-school junior in small-town Illinois, where being openly gay is a one-way ticket to single life until college. So when he catches the eye of the new kid, Chance, Jonathan doesn't know whether to flee or be flattered. Yet unbeknownst to Jonathan, Chance isn't just another high-school hottie. He has a history with Jonathan's best friend, Destiny, and his arrival has consequences.
Destiny and Chance are reincarnated gods with a tangled history of divine drama: an endless debate over which is more powerful, Fate or Coincidence. To test their abilities, Chance suggests Jonathan as the ideal candidate for their unique brand of "help." However, their new mortality and limited powers make this challenge harder than they imagined.
With prom on the horizon and Jonathan's happiness on the line, their struggle over eternal bragging rights might just cause everyone to lose. When the last song of the night draws to a close, will Jonathan's romantic future be in the hands of Destiny or left up to Chance?

“Fate, Coincidence, and Other Curse Words” by Kenneth Creech
I absolutely loved “Fate, Coincidence, and Other Curse Words” by Kenneth Creech. From the first page, I was hooked by the unique blend of Greek mythology and a contemporary high school setting—it was pure fun. The way Creech wove divine elements into Jonathan’s everyday teenage life felt seamless and fresh. I found myself completely absorbed by the story, especially the mystery surrounding Jonathan and why Destiny and Chance’s godly powers didn’t seem to affect him. It kept me intrigued all the way to the end.
The characters in this book are nothing short of lovable. Jonathan, even though he can be insufferable at times, is someone you can’t help but root for. His struggles with self-doubt and his search for love and acceptance are so genuine that they tug at your heart. Destiny and Chance, as reincarnated gods, bring charm and wit to every scene they’re in. Their rivalry and banter add a layer of humor that balances out the more serious themes of Jonathan’s journey, making the story an absolute delight to read.
What I loved most was the romance. It’s sweet, honest, and incredibly heartfelt. Jonathan’s connection with his love interest (see how I don’t spoil it?) is tender and real, and the way their relationship develops feels natural and pure. The story gave me all the warm, cozy feelings—like a big hug from start to finish. It’s the kind of book that makes you smile long after you’ve turned the last page.
