Announcing: You Can Sit with Us Book Club!

I am beyond excited to be bringing the community vibes of the You Can Sit with Us event page to my very first online BOOK CLUB!

Bindery refers to a studio, workshop or factory where sheets of (usually) paper are fastened together to make books, but also where gold and other decorative elements are added to the exterior of books, where boxes or slipcases for books are made and where the restoration of books is carried out.

Rachael's Review: The Girl Upstairs

The Girl Upstairs by Jessica R. Patch

Available Now!

I picked this book up back in April, read the first two chapters, and promptly decided it was meant to be read by a campfire. I had every intention of toting it along with me for our weekends at the camper this summer. Long story short, our camper decided to become the campfire and this book, along with any other camping related plans, fell by the wayside. Thankfully, the book had not made its way to the camper just yet.

I am so glad I found my way back to this book before the end of summer! It was a great mix of suspense, spookiness, and family drama. Add in an unreliable narrator and you have the perfect Summerween read that kept me intrigued but didn't require me to sleep with the lights on (which is, for me, a good thing). While several of my suspicions were correct, the layers of "something's not right here" kept me engaged and guessing. If there's one thing that often puts me off of psychological thrillers, it's the deus ex machina plot device, but Jessica did an excellent job of wrapping up all of the different layers in a way that felt very cohesive and satisfying.

Save to your TBR if you love:

Thank you to @jessicarpatch @harlequinbooks @hqn_shamelessromantics and @netgalley for the #gifted eARC and finished copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Last Night’s Joyful Event

Last night was so joyful! @cuyahogalib hosted Monica Comas and it was such a pleasure to hear her talk about her book, Recipe for Joy, a novel that was born from a period of intense grief in her life, as so much beautiful art often is. What she found and what we as readers experience through her characters, however, was joy. Her story is that of a family fractured by loss and the little things that bring them together and allow them to heal.

Monica and I connected a few months back after @BookSparks sent me a copy of Recipe for Joy as part of their Spring Reading Challenge Ambassador program, and I am so thankful! Monica's DMs never fail to brighten my day. 💕 I am so looking forward to her next book, Upton Retreat which releases in April 2027 and which she described as "Recipe for Joy's younger, wild sister". Sign me up!

It was also wonderful to see @taylorreadsincle again and meet his adopted book grandmas! I am continuously amazed by the book community and how stories have the ability to bring together people from all walks of life.

Thank you to the Cuyahoga County Public Library and @monicacomaswrites for a great evening. I can't wait for next time!
