The Dead Cat Tail Assassins are not cats. Nor do they have tails. But they are most assuredly dead.
Nebula and Alex Award winner P. Djèlí Clark introduces a brand-new world and a fantastical city full of gods and assassins. An Indie Next Pick, LibraryReads Top Ten Selection, Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance Selection, and Best-Of Book according to BookRiot.
Eveen the Eviscerator is skilled, discreet, professional, and here for your most pressing needs in the ancient city of Tal Abisi. Her guild is strong, her blades are sharp, and her rules are simple. Those sworn to the Matron of Assassins—resurrected, deadly, wiped of their memories—have only three unbreakable vows.
First, the contract must be just. That’s above Eveen’s pay grade.
Second, even the most powerful assassin may only kill the contracted. Eveen’s a professional. She’s never missed her mark.
The third and the simplest: once you accept a job, you must carry it out. And if you stray? A final death would be a mercy.
When the Festival of the Clockwork King turns the city upside down, Eveen’s newest mission brings her face-to-face with a past she isn’t supposed to remember and a vow she can’t forget.

💭 what’s a book you want to read before the end of 2025?
i love picking up novellas! especially when they’re a bit weird or take a risk and explore something really unique (Tordotcom always comes through for me there).
📚 books mentioned: - Fever Dream by Samanta Schweblin, translated by Megan McDowell and Ruth Sepp - The Dead Cat Tail Assassins by P. Djèlí Clark - The Strange Beautiful by Carla Crujido - The Practice, the Horizon, and the Chain by Sofia Samatar - Death Among the Stars by C.M. Lockhart
👗💄: - eyeshadow is Lord of the Rings Middle Earth Palette from Glamlite - (also if you have a question about my makeup or something i’m wearing, most of it is curated in my shopmy!)
thank you to Tordotcom, Chin Music Press, and Ingram Sparks for the gifted copies!

Genre Fiction Books by Black American Authors (My B&N had not one single table set up)
I think a few of the booksellers at this location follow me so if you see this 👀👀👀 “accidentally” send it to your manager. 🧍♀️ There are DOZENS of tables at this store alone and not one was set up for Black History Month when I was there twice last week. We should be celebrating black voices in publishing all the time, but to not be doing so at a bare minimum of during BHM?? There’s like 4 different subgenres of romance tables but not one Black Voices table, c’mon. Anyway here’s like 30 books I quickly pulled off my own shelf, a mix of books I’ve read and loved and books on my TBR 📚 #booktok #bookrecs #tbr #barnesandnoble #fantasybooks #horrorbooks #yabooks #bookshopping #sacramento #booktoker #emmaskiesreads #books
